Jean Baptiste Lepage or Pierre Lepage
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 01-08-2007, 05:57 PM - Forum: History - Memories - Famous Residents - Replies (2)

Guy Billard sent us this interesting article about Jean-Baptiste Lepage (called Pierre Lepage) of St. Columban - who had 3 wives and fathered 43 children (16 of them were girls and the rest boys) between 1892 & 1940. The article is in French so maybe Anne McLaughlin can provide a proper translation at some point for our American cousins....

I thought this article I got from the SHGV archives on St Colomban would be of interest to your members.

  Event Meeting Update - December 30th 2006
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 12-31-2006, 02:04 PM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - Replies (1)

St. Columban Event Meeting;

We had a meeting yesterday, Saturday, December 30th to continue planning for our Remembering St. Columban Event scheduled for January 27th 2007.

In general the meeting involved discussions concerning the Script; Rehearsal schedules; and modifications to keep the production within a two hour limit (8pm ? 10 pm).

Kelley has been working on the script; while Bernadette is trying to marry the dancers to the script and Margo Heron & Serena Selby have been doing a lot of production planning and working with the Oscar Peterson hall about their facilities.

Kelley also mentioned that she has a number of short letters that were written during the period and will be read by various narrators. She still has to find a few additional ?volunteers? willing to read some of these letters at various points during the production.
Although Serena did voice some concern about how she will be able to cue these readers who will be in the main audience.

Margo is trying to determine a rehearsal schedule when all, or most, of the talent involved will be available (the Band; the Dancers & the main Narrators). We will try to put something together next Friday or Saturday for some of the individuals involved.

Ken will work on getting the Liquor Permit needed for the ?Gala?

We will likely place some tables near the entrance to sell CD?s from the Tuna Band; Claude?s Book and perhaps also take orders for the DVD of the event.

Fergus will work on getting out a Press Release in the next few days to all English & French media.

Fergus & Ken may take a little trip around the Montreal Irish Bars (tough job - but someone has to do it!) and give them posters of the event and try to get some advertising for the program.

We?ll see if Jeff still has copy of the Power Point presentation from Ottawa in case any of it is usable for this Event.

Marie Christine showed us the very early stages of the DVD production ? looks good so far?

We still have to really push the ticket sales. Most of have some kind of verbal commitment from various friends and family members but now we have to turn them into tangible and actual ticket sales. ? As well, we really need some additional advertising for our Program ?

So these are a few of the highlights that I noted from the meeting ? of course if anyone has any corrections or deletion, please do send them along?.

Let me also take this time to wish you al a very healthy and prosperous 2007 !!!

Take Care

Fergus

  McEvoy Family of St. Columban
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 12-27-2006, 11:58 AM - Forum: Genealogy - Census - No Replies

Copy of e-mail recently received from Jaimie McEvoy relating to the McEvoy family of St. Columban..(Sorry originally I wrote the name as Jamie when it should be Jaimie (with an extra I - Also corrected the e-mail address at the bottom of this note)..

Hello,

My name is Jaimie McEvoy, and I am descended from the McEvoy of Saint Columban. ?Please add me to the mailing list.

I was very pleased, by the way, to see the web site: ?
http://www.stcolumban-irish.com/.

It's absolutely wonderful!

I've compiled some information and analysis of the McEvoy in Saint Columban, and would be glad to pass it along. ?I have a large file of the descendants of the family as well.

I understand that you once wrote a history of Saint Columban. ?Is it possible to obtain a copy? ?I understand that the book is written in French - I'll struggle with that, but I should be O.K., and I have some friends here to help me out. ?I understand that there is a fee.

I may have been misinformed at one time - I had once been told that Saint Columban, including the cemetery, had been destroyed to make way for Mirabel Airport. ?Is this not the case?

Reading further on the website, and the work you've inspired, I must say I feel very emotional both about the existence of the tombstones, the sad condition, and the efforts to restore the cemetery. ?It was heartbreaking to see the conditions of the tombstones. ?I've been told that Edmund McEvoy had a tombstone there. ?Edmund was the brother of my ancestor Thomas McEvoy (married to Margaret Marshall).

Wishing you well this season,

Jaimie McEvoy

  Additions to our Event Page
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 11-26-2006, 09:08 PM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - Replies (3)

Hi Everyone;

I know that Jeff has notified many of you of the recent modifications to our event page which now includes the possibility of reserving for our Gala at the same time that you reserve your regular tickets.

He will also add a note about the possibility of also reserving your copy of the DVD that we plan to produce of the event.

And, Jeff has also added some French language flyers and order forms at the bottom of the opening page.

So just to be sure that everyone is aware of these changes, I am adding this note here in our St. Columban Discussion Forum.

Thanks & Take Care

Fergus

Just a quick update on the web site, I added an option to reserve for the
Gala Event after-reception and some supporting text

New Text
http://www.stcolumban-irish.com/events/

PayPal Purchase option
http://www.stcolumban-irish.com/events/tickets.html

Reserve now but pay later form
http://www.stcolumban-irish.com/events/reservetickets.html

I will be adding another page or text and a form to stimulate and capture
interest in the DVD project soon.

I also noticed the St Patricks Society was kind enough to advertise the
event here recently:
http://www.stpatricksociety.com/new.htm

If anyone has problems using the site to purchase or reserve tickets let me
know right away and I'll come to the rescue. Also if you find any glaring
typos for sure let me know ASAP ;-)

Cheers!

  Event Meeting Notes - November 18th 2006
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 11-20-2006, 09:45 AM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - No Replies

Here is a quick overview of our meeting held at Kelley?s on November 18th 2006.

This meeting was mainly concerned with the actual production of our event.

I am sending it to both the general ?Descendants E-Mail List? and the ?Production Team List?- so you may receive two copies of this report?

1.      Margo Heron

Margo has taken the lead role in the actual planning of our production. She will contact Oscar Peterson Hall directly for some to answers to her questions about the services offered by the Hall. Margo will also determine a ?rehearsal schedule? and a location for these rehearsals. We have determined to keep it as simple as possible to limit the amount of time required for rehearsals and, for example, will likely use lighting as much as possible rather than props etc.

2.      Bernadette Short

Bernadette will contact Bill Gossage directly to arrange for the co-ordination of her dancers with the music that Bill and his group will perform.

3.      Gala Event

We have also decided to offer a gala event immediately after the show to be held in the Atrium of Oscar Peterson Hall. This would be a basic ?Wine & Cheese? gala so that people that attend the show could meet with the various talent that is putting it together. Tickets for this event will be sold at $ 15.00 each. So we will have a regular ticket at $ 30.00 or a Gala Ticket at $ 45.00 (They are actually two separate tickets). So when you are selling or buying tickets, be sure to mention this additional $ 15.00 event. I?ll contact Jeff to see how we can outline this possibility on our reservation form on the web site.

4.      Actual Tickets

Ken Neil has had the actual tickets to the event printed. So we now have the      tickets ? if you would like some tickets to promote to your friends and family, please      contact Kelley.

5.      CD of the Event

We have started to shoot some ?raw footage? with the idea of making a CD of the actual show. This early footage includes scenes in the Cemetery; scenes of our meeting etc. We have agreed to pay for the ?blank? cassettes needed for these shoots. However to produce an actual CD, there will be some time and costs needed in editing this footage. We can only commit to the editing if we can get enough pre-sale and/or interest in this CD. So if you think that you would like a copy of this CD (which will only be produced, of course, after the event), pleas let me know. The cost would likely be in the $ 20.00 range and we would like to have about 100 pre-orders before committing to the editing cost.

6.      Tickets & Advertising

To make this whole production profitable for the Restoration Fund, we do need you to start placing your orders for tickets ASAP. We also need advertisers for our program ? so if you know any company or individuals willing to either advertise or perhaps be some kind of special sponsor, please let Ken Neil know.

So as I say this is only a quick overview ? if anyone that attended this meeting notices that I missed some point(s), please let everyone know.

Thanks

Fergus

  Event Flyers now in French
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 11-13-2006, 08:44 PM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - No Replies

Thanks to the translation skills of Anne McLaughlin with some help from Claude, Jeff Legault has now added some French language flyers on our reservation page at:-

http://www.stcolumban-irish.com/events/

So now you can print out - and post the flyers in either (or both) languages.

To date, the reservations for this event has been a little slow ? but, of course, at this point the end of January seems a long way off?.However, if you are planning g to attend, please do reserve soon. Jeff has made it clear on the reservation page that you can Reserve Now and Pay Later ? and, of course, these tickets make a great Christmas present for friends and family.

Take Care

Fergus

Who published Bro. Hart's 1955 history?
Posted by: Sean - 11-04-2006, 04:23 PM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - Replies (3)

Hi-

I'm writing a college paper on Irish immigration in Quebec, and wanted to use Bro. Hart's history, but I neec to cite its physical publication information.

Can anyone tell me how it was published - name of publisher and location of publication? Was it indeed in 1955? Was it a booklet on its own or part of a larger book?

Also I'm looking for similar publication information on Claude Bourguigon's "About the first communion in St. Columban in the 19th century."

Thanks,

Sean Springer
