Bishop Phelan Update Information
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 02-04-2007, 12:24 PM - Forum: History - Memories - Famous Residents - No Replies

Steve Vollick sent us copies of some pages of a book called "Book built on a Rock". These pages offer some interesting update information about Bishop Patrick Phelan. Although they don't mention St. Columban, they do give a pretty good overview of Bishop Phelan and his life
.
Jeff Legault has now posted these pages at the following location:

Exerpt about Bishop Phelan from the Book Built on a Rock

If you are undable to link to these pages, you can go to the main page

http://www.stcolumban-irish.com/Memories...index.html

and scroll down to the section about Bishop Phelan and reach the new pages from there...

  Canadian History Channel Show and St. Columban
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 01-31-2007, 05:13 PM - Forum: General Enquiries - No Replies

As some of you know, we were approached by the Canadian History Channel at some point a few months ago, as part of the research that they were doing on the Phelan Family and their connection to St. Columban.

Steve Vollick has just e-mailed me to let me know that this show should air on the Canadian History Channel as follows:-

Wednesday - February 21st at 8pm (EST)

or again on...

Saturday February 24th at 6.30pm (EST). ?

Not sure how much it will touch on St. Columban - but I did see the show once and it was both fun and interesting?.

  Initial Financial Report ref: The Event
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 01-31-2007, 05:07 PM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - No Replies

Hi Everyone;

Just to let you all know and keep you up-to-date ? after reviewing all the major revenues and expenses for our St. Columban Event, we can report that we have a net ?profit? of a minimum of   $ 5000.00

There is the possibility that this amount could increase slightly - based on a few ?late payers? and some dollars that will be returned to us from the Oscar Peterson Hall (based on the balance that we owed them vs.what they collected on our behalf at the box office - this takes about 30 days to process) So this return to us from Oscar Peterson Hall will likely add at least a few hundreds of dollars.

So, if anything our net will likely increase over the next few weeks to some degree - for example, Kelley's actual figures indicate an true amount of
$ 5284.65

In addition, and as a direct result of the show, we have now received a few extra donations (completely separate from ticket sales) in the amount of $ 130.00.

With monies we already had on hand, we should now have approximately $ 14,000. in total for our project. ?

The majority of the receipts have now been given to The St. Patrick?s Society for safe keeping with the exception of about $1200.00 or so, that we expect from PayPal for tickets that were reserved on the Internet (It takes about two weeks to process this payment to us).

We also hope to make a few more dollars from the selling of the DVD and perhaps we might also receive a few more direct donations from people that attended the event

? so we are definitely on track.

Not bad for a small project that has only operated for about a year and half - since we first conceived of the idea back in October 2005.

Once again, thank you to everyone that has participated in this effort?..

If you have any questions, either Kelley or I can likely answer them for you.

Thanks again & Take Care

Fergus

  DVD of Jan. 27th St. Columban Event
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 01-30-2007, 10:28 AM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - No Replies

Hi Everyone;

We have already started working on the editing of the ?raw footage? from our St. Columban Event last Saturday to produce a video of the event. This would probably be version # 1 and will likely include the planning leading up to the Event along with the Actual show. We suspect that we will be able to offer this DVD at around $ 20.00 and make some additional money for the restoration project. The video might be ready as early as March 17th (St. Patrick?s Day).

We also might have an updated version 2 at a later date that will then include the building of the actual monument and if we have an official unveiling etc. This updated version would only be ready after the completion of the monument sometime in the Fall if we?re lucky..

So, if you think that you might be interested in purchasing one or more of the initial DVD perhaps you could go to: http://www.stcolumban-irish.com/events/dvdrequest.html - and fill in the form.

Of course, there is no payment due at this time - and you are not actually committed to purchasing one. Our focus of having everyone that is interested completing your request on this form is simply to keep all the information in one place - and to see approximately how many copies we would initially make of the video.

Thanks

Fergus

  English Genealogy Conference
Posted by: jeff.legault - 01-29-2007, 09:25 PM - Forum: Vital Records - Births, Baptisms, Deaths, Marriages, etc. - No Replies

Posting on behalf of Anne McLaughlin that discovered this on the [QC-ETANGLO] list

In June 2007, Quebec Family History Society will be holding a genealogy conference at McGill University in Montreal. All talks will be in English.

There is going to be a guided tour of the Montreal Archives. Some of the  speakers will speak about accessing land records via the internet, legal records, & there will be talk about Eastern Townships land records. Often people overlook the legal records, & the land records not realizing how much data these contain for genealogists. One lady searched for years trying to find her ancestor's marriage.The place & date of the marriage was found in the land records. People who didn't own land are often included in the land records, as well. The legal records are wonderful for putting "meat on the bones" of our  ancestors.  There will be a session dedicated to "Ask the Experts"  whereby we can ask the panel of experts specific questions that have proven difficult to answer.

Please check out the website  http://www.qfhs.ca & look for details of Roots 2007 Conference for a list of the speakers & other needed info. (Accommodations, food, directions etc) Sign up now, as the price goes up in May.

  St. Columban Event - Big, Big Success
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 01-28-2007, 12:24 PM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - Replies (4)

Beautiful! Terrific! Lovely! Great! Amazing!

The genuine compliments just kept coming and coming, last night, after our St. Columban Irish performance?

How can we possibly thank all of you for your dedication to this performance? Many of us didn?t even know each other, as we embarked on this journey - and we came together to present our story so well ? far beyond my wildest expectations!!?.

Everything just clicked and moved in perfect harmony like we had done it a thousand times before?

And Serena, in the excitement, I know that I forgot to thank you and John for the absolutely perfect stage management as well as, Kelley?s kids that did all the ?front of the house? duties so well!

Not really sure but I suspect that we had around 400 people in attendance, and after we do a little expense accounting, I?m sure that we raised some substantial money for the project. -Actually, someone gave me a check for $ 100. last night as a special donation!

And thanks Redmond for giving me some Irish diction lessons so I could finally pronounce Michael?s name properly!

I guess our next step, after a little well deserved rest, is to start investigating the type of monument that we want to build, and hopefully we?ll have enough to start the construction soon?and, perhaps ? just perhaps, we might be able to have a unveiling of the monument in the Fall ? who?s knows ? but we can try!!!

Anyway to all of you ? the band; narrators; readers and, of course the dancers, as well as all the people ?behind the scenes? like Jeff and Ken and Anne, and Claude, and again Serena & John etc?(I'm sure I'm forgetting someone!!!).....

Thank you all ? Thank you very, very much !!! Take Care

Attention: Michael Mannings & Gary Mair

Hi Guys;

Just a quick note to let you know that although you are on our e-mail list - every e-mail that we send you about St. Columban seems to be returned as Spam...

You both have the same Internet Provider - Comcast - and I guess that put in some wierd spam protection on their system..No matter what we send you even if it is just a direct address to you, from any one of our addresses, it is returned....

Thought you might like know and this was the only way that I could think to tell you...

If you have another e-mail address etc...Just send me a note to http://info@stcolumban-irish.com and I'll make the correction...

Thanks
