  St. Patrick's Society Luncheon
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 02-26-2008, 10:41 AM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - No Replies

Hi;

Each year the St. Patrick's Society of Montreal has a St. Patrick's Day Luncheon. For the least few years 5 or 6 of us from the St. Columban group have attended. If any of you are interested in joining us this year, here is the info

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to attend the 2008 Annual St. Patrick?s Day Luncheon, to be held in the Main Ballroom of the Hilton Montreal Bonaventure Hotel on Monday, March 17th, 2008. ?

Our guest speaker is the Hon. Jean Charest.

This year you also have the option of making a voluntary contribution to the Patron?s Fund. Any contribution is welcome, but we are inviting sums of $100 to $250 as a fitting Patron?s gift. ?We are pleased to announce that the net revenues of this year?s Patrons? Fund will support two charities held in high regard by our Society. ?Our targeted charities are the Benedict Labre House, and The Montreal General Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care Unit. ?A charitable donation tax receipt will be issued for the full amount. ?If you would like further information about the Patron?s Fund, please contact the Society at (514) 481-1346.

There will be the customary cash bar from 11:15 to 12:15 and the lunch is from 12:15 to 14:15. ?

Individual tickets are $70 each, but members of the Society are eligible for a reduced price of $60. ?A limited number of Corporate Tables are available at a cost of $1000, the benefits of which are outlined in the order form.

Please fill out the attached form to order your tickets and forward it as indicated.

We look forward to welcoming you on March 17th.

Sincerely yours,

Dan Zangwill

Luncheon Chair

  St. Columban Article - Today's Gazette
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 02-24-2008, 09:58 AM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - No Replies

Hi;

Just a reminder that in today's Montreal Gazette (Sunday, February 24th 2008) on Page A14, there is an article about St. Columban's Father Falvey written by John Kalbfleisch. He even manged to slip in a line or two about our Cemetery restoration project. I think you can also see a copy of the article on-line at the following link

http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/co...7c344e9344

We did have a small meeting yesterday about the restoration project and should be able to offer you a report on our efforts in the next day or two.

In the meantime, take care

Fergus

  Possible St. Columban Article on February 24th
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 02-14-2008, 12:00 PM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - Replies (1)

Just a quick note to watch your Montreal Gazette newspaper on Sunday, February 24th 2008 which is the tentative date when there will be an article mainly about Father Falvey and certainly touching on St. Columban. It will likely be a history article that normally appears on the Sunday editorial page.

There is also the possibility of a 2nd article that might appear on March 16th

Take Care & Happy Valentine's Day to you all

Hi Everyone...

We would like to have a meeting on Saturday, February 23rd 2008 to discuss our progress, and the next steps needed, to start our St. Columban Monument project - hopefully this spring.

The location for the meeting will be decided toward the end of next week and we will let you all know when and where. (It will likely be on Saturday morning around 10am)

In the meantime, can you mark your calenders, and let either Kelley ( http://kelley.orourke@videotron.ca) or me ( http://fergus@panamsec.com) know if you will be able to attend.

Thanks

Fergus

  The Rebellion of 1837 and St. Columban
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 01-11-2008, 08:30 PM - Forum: Vital Records - Births, Baptisms, Deaths, Marriages, etc. - No Replies

Many of you know, of course, that there was a "Rebellion" in Lower Canada in 1837-8. There is a web page (in French) dedicated to the Patriots of this Rebellion. It is interesting to note that the Irish of St. Columban seemed to support the Patriots (who were mostly French) against the Loyalists (who were mainly English)...Here are a couple of examples of my ancestors and other St. Columban residents that were attending meetings leading up to the Rebellion[/b]
