Hello Claude,
A couple of years ago, my mother Catherine Phelan (nee Longpre) and I visited St. Columban looking for information on the history of my father's Phelan connections in St. Columban.  His name is Philip Phelan and he was born in St. Columban.  We looked through the church records and I believe we met you briefly while we were there.  Unfortunately I ran out of time to get all the information I wanted and could verify.  However, I plan on visiting St. Columban this summer.  Here is what I have so far:

John Phelan (born 1798) and Catherine Murphy (born 1816) had the following children: Martin, John, Mary, Elizabeth.
It appears that Martin Phelan was my great grandfather. He was first married to Mary Teresa Casey. They had the following children: Catherine (Gedeon Janvine), James Thomas (later lived in Boston), Mary Elizabeth (John Doonan (or Donovan) of West Shefore, Bedford), Bridget Ellen, Elizabeth (George Ronald) and John. Mary Casey Died. Martin Phelan remarried Margaret Grace* (born 1843, daughter of James Grace and Elizabeth Casey.). Martin and Margaret had a son: William Patrick Phelan (my grandfather). My grandfather married Annie Carroll of Chapeau, Quebec.  My grandmother, Annie Carroll was a teacher in St. Columban and that where she and William met. They had the following children: Philip Phelan (my father); Margaret, Mary and Kathleen.  My father was born in St. Columban and I believe my aunt Margaret was also born there.  My father is no longer living.  I also have a relative in Ottawa who is related to Martin Phelan/Mary Teresa Casey.  Her father and my father were first cousins.

I hope to get more information about both the Phelan, Grace and Casey families and their connections.

Looking forward to exchanging information with everyone.
