Al Lewis from the Bytown Site has sent us the following information. It is taken from the total information that is provided in the Bytown link that I mentioned in my last post:-
Thanks for providing a link to my Bytown or Bust site at http://www.bytown.net
We have lots of common interests on our sites and I'll keep an eye out for further connections between the early settlers in the Ottawa area and those from St. Columbans.
Here is another one, sent to me by Michael Daley who lives in Osgoode Township (now part of the city of Ottawa):
"James Conway, his wife Sarah Dunn, from Ireland to St, Scholastique Quebec, two children born in Quebec Michael Nov,14 1828, Catherine, July 4 1832, moving to Osgoode settling on lot 24, con,2 [ by the 1863 map of Osgoode] 3 more children were born in Osgoode, Catherine married Edward Patrick McEvoy son of Michael McEvoy and Mary Castigan, moved to Iowa, USA started a little town, and named it Osgoode.
John McEvoy born the 27 / 5th 1848, son of John and Anastaia [ Power], McEvoy, married Mary Ann Buckles, their sons Ambrose , and Domnic were the founders of " McEvoy Funeral Homes."
Catherine McEvoy born ,1838, sister to John, married Patrick Kelly their Great,-Great--Grandson , Lorne Kelly, is the founder of the "KELLY Funeral Homes."
Between the McEvoys, Kellys and Whelans, all of whom were involved in the funeral home business in Ottawa, St. Columbans alumni probably buried about a third of Ottawa's population since the 1920's.
