E-Mail Update Notes - Sunday - April 16 2006 - Fergus_Keyes - 04-16-2006 Since not everyone in this Discussion Forum is on our E-Mail list, the following is general information that we sent by e-mail today.... Meeting Poll Originally we had planned to have the next meeting about the Cemetery Restoration Project in late April to coincide with Claude's launch of his new updated St. Columban book. However, the launch of Claude's book has been delayed until around the end of May (tentatively for May 27th). We set up a poll to see if people wanted to wait until this date for our next meeting or have one earlier. You can find the poll in the first section of the "discussion forum" page. In addition to finding out how people feel about the next meeting date, we are also trying to see how well a poll works. So if you have any similar questions for the group that will work in a poll format, please post it. Otherwise, if you are involved in these meetings, please vote on your date preference. The major issue for our next meeting, will be a presentation by Ken Neil who has spent a lot of time investigating materials and costs for our project. Donations When I checked with The St. Patrick's Society last week, we had not received any additional donations to this project since we updated the information at the end of March. Information Project Kelley & Jeff have been working hard to set up a new information section on our web site that will be really neat and that we should be able to unveil soon. Actually this might be a good possibility for another poll since we have had some discussions about how "public" we really want to make this info. or if we should reserve it to our registered members. Family Histories As part of the above mentioned project, you will likely be able to post your entire family history to the site. For example, if you have been using Family Tree Maker or a similar program, you can easily convert it to a GENCOM file and Jeff could post it in this new area. Jeff is testing now and we'll let you know when this can be done. BIFHSGO This Ottawa based genealogy group have asked us to present information about St. Columban at their conference scheduled for September 22 - 24th 2006 at Library and Archives Canada. At this point, I have agreed to make a presentation and Jeff Legault is willing to work with me on a "power point" visual presentation to go along with my speech. This group has also offered us a "table top" area where we could have brochures etc. and talk to people on an individual basis about what we are doing. This possibility would depend on how many of the people from our group will attend all or part of this conference. It is still some months away, but we'll keep you updated as we get more information. The Discussion Forum These was few days where if you were registered to get updated e-mail information as notes were added to the Forum - this function was not working. Jeff has likely corrected this problem but it is always good to check the forum now and then since we usually post quick update notes in this location. And, of course, please register and post any information; questions; general comments etc. that you would like to add. We now have 30 registered members in the discussion forum. So that's it for now - Take Care Fergus |
