  GREAT DAY FOR A PARADE
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 03-20-2011, 03:15 PM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - Replies (2)

GREAT DAY FOR A PARADE

It was indeed a perfect day for the Montreal St. Patrick?s Day Parade.
The weather was Sunny & Bright - with very large crowds along St. Catherine St.
As I have for the past few years, I marched with the St. Patrick?s Society of Montreal.

Look for relatives with Families Collins and Lyons
Posted by: Herve - 03-15-2011, 09:10 PM - Forum: General Enquiries - Replies (2)

I am helping a friend of mine doing her family tree.

She is told by her mother that Timothy Collins (see this post http://www.stcolumban-irish.com/smf/index.php?topic=222.msg445#msg445) is her great-great-great uncle, she thinks that her ancestor Margaret Collins (1855 Qu?bec city- 1924 Qu?bec city) (married with James Lyons (1854 Qu?bec city -1941 Qu?bec city)) was of the same family than Timothy. Margaret Collins is the daughter of Arthur Collins ans Mary Welsh from Ireland (place not found yet). I do not find any relative between the family Collins from Qu?bec city and Timothy. We are maybe looking at in the wrong way.

Does somebody have more information about Timothy ? parents, brothers ans sisters ?

Thank you for your help.

Dear Sir/Madam

Please find attached a pdf of our poster advertising our 2011 programme of short term visiting scholarships to Ireland.

Since 1995, the Ireland Canada University Foundation (ICUF) has funded a series of annual scholarships, with the purpose of encouraging and facilitating academic links between institutions and scholars in both Ireland and Canada.

We would be very grateful if you could please circulate this to any of your members who may be interested.

Our website, www.icuf.ie, gives further details both on these scholarships, as well as on the background and ethos of ICUF.

Finally, I should mention that the closing date for applications is Friday, April 29th next.

Many thanks for your assistance.

Yours sincerely,

James Kelly

CBC DOCUMENTARY - FAMINE AND SHIPWRECK, AN IRISH ODYSSEY

Might be of interest.....

[size=10pt][size=10pt]CBC DOCUMENTARY - FAMINE AND SHIPWRECK, AN IRISH ODYSSEYA Film by Brian McKennaProduced by Natalie Dubois and Arnie Gelbart

World Broadcast Premiere
CBC TV? Doc Zone
Thursday March 17, 2011
9:00 PM ET/PT

Repeats: Friday March 18, 2011 at 10 pm (ET/PT) on CBC News Network

On March 17, Canadians celebrate St. Patrick?s Day with parades, whiskey and songs. But for millions of Irish-Canadians, there is a story of unspeakable sadness at the heart of Canada?s Irish experience.  It is a story seldom mentioned, even today. Some call it the Irish potato famine. Others call it the Great Starvation. And others do not shrink from calling it a great crime. The saga has a million stories and on March 17, CBC TV?s Doc Zone will let you discover Famine and Shipwreck, an Irish Odyssey, a film by Brian McKenna, a story that?s one in a million.

Famine and Shipwreck, an Irish Odyssey was shot in Ireland, Quebec, Ontario and off the coast of Prince Edward Island, in 2010.  It never would have been possible without the incredible efforts of Paddy Murphy from Ontario, who traced his genealogy back to his Irish roots in South Armagh, Ireland.

Famine and Shipwreck, an Irish Odyssey is a Galafilm production, produced in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Radio-Canada, with the financial participation of the Canadian Media Fund, the Quebec tax credit and the Federal tax credit, and developed with the financial participation of the SODEC.

Crawford Family (Martha) - St. Columban Inquiry
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 03-01-2011, 12:39 PM - Forum: Vital Records - Births, Baptisms, Deaths, Marriages, etc. - Replies (3)

I was reading your website and wondered if you had any information on the family of John Crawford. His second daughter, my Great aunt, Martha was born in St. Columban, She is the only one of the siblings born there, one was born in Ireland in 1822, the rest were born in the Grenville Argenteuil area.

  Quebec Archives Workshop - February 19th 2011
Posted by: Fergus_Keyes - 01-24-2011, 05:42 PM - Forum: News - Announcements - Events - Replies (1)

[size=10pt][size=10pt]The Quebec Archives has a wealth of information and documents of interest to anyone that is doing genealogy or general historical research.

However, they seldom offer workshops, in English, on how to best use the Archives in your search.

But, on Saturday, February 19th 2011, they are indeed scheduled to have an English language workshop from 1:30pm until 3:00pm at 535 Viger St. East.

(This building alone is worth a visit since it has such great architecture)

This workshop is free but you do have to reserve by calling 514-873-1100 extension # 2

Jeff will be posting an official poster on our site with additional details for this event -

Take Care
